Juraj Karpis is co-founder and chairman of the board of the most-cited Slovak economic think-tank INESS. He focuses on monetary matters and the financial system. Before founding INESS in 2005 he worked in financial institutions. As Chairman of the board and analyst of INESS he served as an external expert for private equity firms, investment companies, and World Bank. In the year 2011, he was a Member of the advisory board of the Minister of Finance working on changes in tax policy, public finance, and business environment. In 2011 he was awarded the title Person of the Year by weekly magazine .týždeň for his commentaries and educational work on financial issues and the crisis. In 2015 he published an economic bestseller about the monetary system and financial crisis – Bad Money. In the book, he discussed also the issue of cryptocurrencies and their role in transforming the current financial system. He follows the cryptocurrencies-sector and studies its influence on the evolution of monetary systems.
